BAND SUNDAY.

FUNCTION AT CARTERTON. The Wairarapa Bands Association, which comprises the Upper Hutt, Martinborough, Greytown, Carterton and Masterton Bands, yesterday afternoon gave a concert at Carrington Park, Carterton, and in tho evening in the Tivoli Theatre, to appreciative audiences. At the evening entertainment, in addition to various items given by the bands, vocal items were given by Mr J. Connell, Miss D. Feast, Miss Burnley (recitation), Messrs G. Hutchings (cornet solo), O. Maxton (euphonium solo), and F. Davie (saxophone solo). Misses G. Bcrrill and W. Dyer were the accompanists. The proceeds of the day were in aid of the Carterton Band contest fund.

Besides being noteworthy for the presence of the Upper Hutt Band, which is now a member of the Wairarapa Association and made its first appearance yesterday at a Wairarapa gathering, the assembly was regarded as the most successful yet organised. There was a large attendance of the public in the afternoon, and the theatre was filled for the evening performance. The 'Carterton ladies very kindly provided a substantial meal for the bandsmen after the afternoon performance and supper in the evening. On behalf of the bands, Mr R. J. Young, conductor of the Masterton Municipal Band, assured the ladies of the gratitude and appreciation of the bandsmlen \for their hospitality. At a meeting of the executive, it was decided that the next Band Sunday should be at Masterton on November 17th. All the bands affiliated w r ith the Association will be coming to Masterton on that occasion.

The association bands are to assemble again at Carterton on the evening of October 30tli, the first day of the Carterton Show. The massed bands will march to the showgrounds, and each band will then render an individual programme. The P. and A. Association is to appoint three outside judges, who will award a prize of £o to the band rendering the most popular programme.
