Private advice has been received in Invercargill to the effect that Gold Cup, who was recently returned to Australia iu charge of the Invercargill trainer, F. W. Ellis, won a race at Geelong on September 25th. It was Gold Gup’s first race in public sineo returning home,, and, although the stake was only about £3O, it is said that his connections secured quite a remunerative price from the ring. The event in question was the first division of the Novice Handicap, run over five furlongs, and Gold Cup carried 8.1, while the top weight was 9.3. The Inverveargill joekey L. J. Ellis, steered the winner to victory. The Graphic, who was also trained in Invercargill prior to being sent home to Melbourne, was a runner at the same meeting. The Paper Money filly contested the Barman Welter, seven furlongs, under 8.5, and, while not placed, she finished close up to the leaders.
