"Last year the Hospital Rate was reduced by 1-48 of one penny in the pound, and in order to meet the levy demanded by the Wairarapa Hospital Board for the current year an increase of l-4Sd in the pound is necessary.

Provision was made in last year’s estimates for the interest and sinking fund required to meet payments under the Bridge Rate, for the first halfyear's interest, on the proposed loan for the reconstruction of the Ruamahanga river bridge, To Ore Ore. As this work was not proceeded with, this account stands in credit to that extent. With this balance available for the current year the bridge rate remains the same as last year.
