OPERSONAL ITEMS.

Mrs Myer Caselberg, of Auckland, and formerly of Masterton, returned yesterday from a visit to Jerusalem. According to a Tress Association message, the condition of the Chief Justice was reported last night to 1— no worse. Miss Riach and Mr Coaly, recently appointed to the teaching staff of the Wairarapa High School, took up their new duties to-day. Mr T. S. George, of the Carterton staff of the Bank of New South Wales, has been advised of his transfer to the head office, Wellington. He _ will take up his duties there in a fortnight’s time. At the weekly luncheon of the Masterton Rotary Club yesterday officers for the year commencing on July 1 were elected as follow:—President, Mr 11. M. Peacock; vue-president, Mr S. L. P. Free; secretary, Mr Raymond Lee; treasurer, Mr G. W. Sellar; directors, Dr. G. 11. Uttley and Mr 11. E. Hart. The death has occurred of Mr Richard Bach, at the ag? of S2, reports a Press Association message from Gisborne. He arrived in Auckland seventy years ago in the Gertrude, his father having brought in that vessel sections of a smaller vessel with which to institute a shipping service on the New Zealand coast. The little boat was lilted together at Auckland, and ran for many years between Auckland .and Thames. On Friday afternoon, at the Martinborough District High School, the pupils took the opportunity of saying farewell to their departing headmaster, Mr W. Hickson. The head prefect, Jean Cochrane,- on behalf of the scholars, expressed regret that the school was losing Mr Hickson, and asked him. to accept, as a mark of their esteem, a seagrass chair. The school wished him o' cry success in Masterton West, and hoped that both he and Mrs Hickson would enjoy many years of hehlth and happiness. In reply, Mr Hickson thanked the children for their handsome gift and remarked that he would always hove pleasant memories of liis time in Martinborough. “For He’s a Jolly Good Fellow” and prolonged applause concluded the ceremony.
