The practice of open-air training at night by the means of electric light is now a popular one amongst Napier footballers. McLean Park is now illuminated by three powerful electric lamps, under whose rays players can indulge in passing and dribbling work almost as clearly as in daylight. Recently over 100 players were training on the park, two physical drill instructors being active in putting squads of footballers through the well known “jerks. ”

Mr Keitli Peebles, the Woodville footballer, who, while playing at Feeding, received severe injuries to his head and was removed to the Palmerston North hospital, where very little hope was held out for liis recovery, is stated to be a little better.

At a meeting of a church guild at Nelson, there was a discussion and criticism on sport, at the conclusion of which the following resolution was carried:—“That while it is recognised that public interest centres round .senior football, yet, with a view to promoting clean and healthy sport among the young, this meeting respectfully suggests to the editor of the ‘Mail’ that a larger snare should be devoted to the reporting of junior games.”

Says “Scrum” in the Napier Telegraph: “Modesty is not their failing in Wairarapa and down in the Valley they make no secret of the fact that they consider this year’s team their best ever.” But when it conies to unadulterated skite Hawke’s Bay has held the championship for many years, and even AVairarapa has not been able to wrest that from them, as “Scrum” doubtless knows.
