Dr. deary, Roman Catholic Bishop of Auckland, who recently underwent an operation, is reported to be making very satisfactory progress. The death is announced, states a Press Association message from Auckland, of Mrs Alison, wife of the Hon. E. W. Alison, at the age of 74. Mr A. M. Mowlem, S.M., who has been confined to his bed during the holidays, is reported to be making satisfactory progress towards recovery. The death occurred at Wellington on Sunday of Mr M. J. Brookes, manager of the Bristol Piano Co., at the age of 63 years. He leaves a widow but no family. A Sydney cablegram states that Mr W. Ball, one of the New South Wales representatives on the Cricket Board of Control, has been appointed manager of the team which is to visit New Zealand. The wedding took place at Nelson last week of Miss Hazel .Peterson (formerly on the nursing staff of the Palliatua Public Hospital) to Mr Darcy Fry, of Motueka. Miss Peterson is a daughter of Mr Carl Peterson, of Clareville. A pretty wedding was celebrated in Masterton yesterday morning, when Mr William Yates, youngest son of Mr and Airs G. 11. Yates, Upper Plain, was 'married to Miss Lorelei Peterson, daughter of Air and Airs Frederick Peterson, of Aliriam Street, Alasterton. Miss Ena -Stockier, the New Zealand 100 yards swimming, champion, has accepted an invitation from the New South Wales Ladies’ Amateur Swimfiling Club to visit Australia 1 in February, with Aliss Kathleen Aliller, of Dunedin. Mr and Airs Traill, of Stewart Island, celebrated their golden wedding on Sunday. They have been residents of the island for more than half a century. For many years Air Traill was the teacher of the Native school at “The Neck,” and for a considerable period afterwards was postmaster at the most southern post office in the world, namely, the Island of Ulva. Mrs Traill is the daughter of the late Rev. Air Wohlers, who gave the greater part of his life to ministerial work amongst the Alaoris on Euapuke Island.

Knight. —Mr Edward German, composer. Knight of the Victorian Order.—Sir Edward Elgar, composer. Grand Cross of the Order of Bath. —General Sir Alexander Godley. General Godlcy was G.O.C. of the New Zealand Forces from 1910 to 1914, and commanded the New Zealand Expeditionary Force throughout the war.
