ROCK GARDENS.
(To the E lit or). Sir. —A newspaper paragraph is read by nearly every citizen, and 1 want to convey to residents of your district the fact that, in proportion to population, Alastertoh stands third in the Dominion in membership. Nelson conics first, as we have nearly 200 members, but a big proportion of these are only paying five shillings subscription, and outside the Nelson district the society has only two members on this basis. Full members pay one guinea and partake of all benefits, and with this class of member Kaikoura is first and Masterton second in proportion to population. Dr. ilosking, of your town, is a vicepresident to represent us for your district, and we have many great enthusiasts. and new names are constantly being added to our list. The work of the society is proving the great necessity for such a moment, but a limit of membership must soon come, and it is expected that the list will be closed by June Ist, as we are increasing at the rate of three per week now, and this is the off-season. Our sole object is to encourage the fascinating hobby of rock gardening, and full particulars can be procured by writing to headquarters. — I am, etc., A. AVILKINSOX, Hon. Secretary, N.Z. Rock Gardens Society.
