WAIRARAPA v. THE NOMADS.

The Nomads cricket team, captaiuao by 11. F. Arkwright, commenced a two •clay match against a AVairarapu eleven led by A. Patrick, at the Park Ova yesterda v.

Patrick won the toss and sent Phelps and Burt to open. The former spent an active time for thirty runs, including a sixer off Collins, until the latter beat him with one which nipped in quickly. Patrick, Uttley and James did not stay long, but when Falloon joined Burt the scoring livened up and these two added 134 runs for the fifth wicket. Falloon was particularly aggressive, scoring most of his runs in front of the wicket, and seemed set for a century when he was smartly stumped by Arkwright off Hamilton. Frequent changes in the : Nomads’ attack failed to root out Burt. I who, however, gave two chances in the early afternoon. A third chance later, when his score stood at 78, was dropped by Collins at second slip, but off the next ball, Cameron, at first slip, snapped up a low catch. The tail-enders failed, to do much, and the innings closed shortly after the .afternoon tea adjournment for 266 runs. Cameron and Bunny opened the innings for the Nomads, the former commencing brightly with a boundary to leg off Beach’s first ball. He quickly put on 29 with a succession of five fours, but succumbed to a leg decision from Phelps. Clirystall joined Bunny, whose score was 9, but lost his wicket when attempting a short run, a smart return from Burt to the bowler giving the batsman no chance. Talbot was the next batsman, and despite three changes in the bowling, he and Bunny carried the score to 85, when stumps were drawn for the day. Bunny’s rate of scoring was slow, but sure.
