AUSTRALIAN SHIPPING.
CONSIDERABLE PROGRESS. SYDN BY, Wednesday. The past year has shown a considerable progress in shipping in Australia, and there is much evidence that the industry generally will continue to advance in 192,8. Trade in the overseas, inter-State and New South Wales coastal services has been satisfactory. During the year ended June JO, 192<, a record quantity of cargo from oversea was landed, and merchandise shipped by vessels on the Australian register was greater than ever before. With one or two minor exceptions, the oversea freight rates for general cargo remained unchanged. Apart from the watersiders’ strike, recently, the trade was not hampered during the year to such an extent as in preceding years.
