AFTER MANY YEARS.
YOUNG MAN ARRESTED. NOT COMPLYING WITH ORDER. Edward Egan, a young carpenter, was charged in tlie Alagistrate’s Court at Alasterton this, morning, before Air ■S. L. P. Free, S.AL. with being in ar-% rears to the extent of £3l, tip to December, 1921. upon a maintenance order for the support of his child. Sergeant Dyer said accused was arrested at Palmerston North on Alonday last upon a warrant issued at Alasterton in May, 1922. Accused was prepared to pay 15/- a week, being 10/ a week as ordered, and 5/- a week off the arrears. This was satisfactory to the complainant. Accused wa? now married. The Alagistrate said he noticed that the arrears now amounted to £1.87. The £3l arrears mentioned on tlie charge was up till the time the warrant was issued in 1922. His Worship 1 asked defendant if he had constant work. Defendant replied that he had fairly constant employment. Defendant was sentenced to- two months’ imprisonment, the warrant to be suspended for 7 days and thereafter if 15/- a week is paid, being 10/- ‘a week current maintenance and 5/- a week off the arrears. A condition was also imposed that he report to the police every month.
