The three miles championship was. one of the finest ever seen in the games. A furlong from home Savidan opened out and ran eight or nine yards ahead of Rose. The latter closed up as they turned into the straight, but Savidan had a lot in hand, and the two men came down the stretch sprinting like half-milers, The two went past Hie line abreast, the judges giving Rose the verdict by six inches.
