SCULLING.

WORLD’S CHAMPIONSHIP. GOODSELL BEATEN. VANCOUVER, Tuesday. In driving rain and against wind. Barry won the world’s sculling championship, beating Major Goodsell by twelve lengths, in 21mins. 4sees. The result was due to a complete reversal of form. Barry led from the start. He had a lead of three lengths at the mile, then increased the lead steadily. The boat following Goodseil got too close, thereby interfering with the sculler, but Barry got too far ahead to make any difference. The race finished in a deafening tumult of sirens and cheers. Barry finished fit- and rowed back to his quarters. Goodsell finished in a state of collapse and had to be given assistance before he was able to row in. He was unable to give an interview. Goodsell’s supporters blame his defeat on bad luck * during training, when he injured a wrist in a fall and had an upset into the water.
