HICKMAN CONFESSES. HAD NO ACCOMPLICE. i’ress Association" Electric Telegraph-Copyright. SAN FRANCISCO, Tuesday. A message from Woodland states that Hickman confessed that he killed Marion Parker without an accomplice, according to the detectives taking him to Los Angeles. HICKMAN TRIES TO SUICIDE. NEW YORK, Sunday. At Pendleton, Hickman made two attempts to kill himself to-day. First he tried to strangle himself with a knotted handkerchief, and when intercepted by the guard lie tried to dive from his bunk to dash iiis head on the concrete floor. He had been in a state of lethargy for many hours previously. When arousing he tore a Bible to pieces, scattered tlie pages on tlie floor, and then attempted to commit suicide. Hickman has been taken back to Los Angeles, leaving Pendleton late this afternoon. A huge crowd stir-' rounded the railway station. PUBLIC ANGER ROUSED. (Received Wednesday, 10.0 u.m.) NEW YORK. Tuesday. A message from Los Angeles says that Hickman was safely lodged in gaol here despite widespread fears of mob violence. Public anger lias again been roused to a fever pitch by the publication of the ’details of his confession of the murder, which are particularly brutal. Hickman is cringing, and appears to be on tlie verge of a collapse.
