NEW YEAR’S EVE.

(To the Editor). Sir, —By kind permission of the Wairarapa branch of the Employers" Association, a centuries’ old tradition is to be supplanted in its correct time observance by another date selected by this body. As our French allies would say—Nous ne pensons pas. (We don’t think). Fortunately, this body cannot by any stretch of imagination be considered representative of local retailors, of whom fully two-thirds will lie open until 10 p.m. on New dear's Eve to render service and convenience to their town and country customers, who will thus be able to see that there are still traders in Masterton who consider business before personal pleasure. Perhaps -it is not amiss to point out that, in the advertised list of linns not observing the late night on New Year's Eve, some are unable to do so by award and others have not observed a late night for years past.
