DOG-RACING.
ITS EVIL EFFECTS. 'X SLUMP IN CLUB SHARES. LONDON, Friday. The warning issued in the House of Commons by the Home Secretary (Sir W. Joynson-Hicks) against the evil effects of dog racing, had a striking effect on greyhound racing clubs’ shares, which slumped heavily in London and the provinces, some to the extent of 5(1 per cent. Enquiries in the House of Commons lobbies show that large numbers of members are dissatisfied with the position created by the phenomenal development of clog racing, but feel that general prohibition* would be useless, and likely to create a reaction in favour of the sport. Sir W. Joynson-Hicks in 1925 will introduce a Bill dealing generally wPn juvenile delinquency, including powers to stop children betting at .greyhound meetings. The legality of any betting on dog races is expected to be tested shortlv in the law courts.
