TORRENTIAL DOWNPOUR.
TWO INCHES IN TWO HOURS.' (By Telegraph —Press Association.) HAWERA, Friday. Following a brief thunderstorm, which commenced at 11.30 a.m. yesterday, a torrential downpour of almost tropical intensity drenched the Hawera district. During the space of two hours almost two inches of rain fell. Many of the principal thoroughfares of Hawera were inundated. The flood waters reached a depth of nine inches over the middle portion of the main street for a distance of one hundred yards. No serious damage was reported, the rain ceasing shortly before 2 o’clock.
