UNEMPLOYMENT.
POSITION IN BRITAIN. A MINISTER'S OPTIMISM. Press Association-Electric Telegraph-Conyrigh; LONDON, Tuesday. In the House of Commons, Air T. Johnston moved the Labour Party motion: ‘-That the long-continued unemployment of a million workers is of the gravest national concern, calling for a comprehensive national policy to stimulate production and relieve industry in • necessitous areas of its exceptional burdens.” Sir A. Steel Maitland, replying, said lie was ready to bet unemployment would be down to four per cent, by 1932, or three per cent, by 1933. The motion was rejected by 25G votes to 102.
