The picnic was held on December 1G and the concert on December 17, •each item being well received. \ isitors from Masterton gave some enjoyable items. -Later Father Christmas appeared with a lucky stocking for each -child. After a few dances the proceedings closed with “Auld Lang -Syne.’ ’ MANGAMAHOE SCHOOL. On Friday afternoon the usual breakwas held at the school, wheiiJffie parents and committee as--r sembled to witness the presentation of jorizes, and an entertainment given by the children.- One pleasing feature of The entertainment was that every child gave an item. The success of the entertainment was in a great measure due to the untiring efforts of Mrs Birkby. Proficiency certificates were handed to Kathleen Faulkner and Lorainc Berney.

Good attendance certificates were .'awarded to Denise Birkbv and James Faulkner. Mr Bernev, in addressing the children, thanked them for their entertainment and spoke of the necessity of putting the same spirit into their work as they put into those things which they liked doing. The chairman (Mr P. Faulkner) in presenting the prizes, complimented both the teacher and children on the good work accomplished during the _m _year. Every child in the school was the recipient of a prize. A dainty afternoon tea was served by after which the children indulged in dancing and games, .and. a very pleasant afternoon was brought to a close by the singing of the National Anthem. A number of serious ' charges were preferred against William Heighten, a married man of 29, in the Christchurch Magistrate's Court yesterday. The Court was cleared while the evidence was taken. Accused pleaded not guilty and was committed for trial.
