CHINA AND RUSSIA.
NATIONALIST BREAK. A FURTHER EXPLANATION. (Deceived Tuesday, 11.0 a.m.) SHANGHAI, Monday. In a further explanation of the Nationalist break with Russia, Dr. Wu, Nationalist Minister of Foreign Affairs, declares officially that action was taken reluctantly and solely in self-defence. He denies' hostility to Russia, towards whom he has the warmest sympathy. The action must not be construed to constitute a severance of political and relations, as Russian trade is too extensive, and a method must be devised to- continue it. A search warrant on Soviet commercial agencies, houses, and the Soviet Consulate has been granted by the International Settlement police. Ten Soviet commercial organisations have been closed and guarded. The police have ordered them to wind up their affairs and evacuate.
