Following a quarrel in a lane off one of the main thoroughfares in Leichhardt shortly before mid-day, Police Constable Arthur Ford fatally shot with a revolver Airs Florence Laws, four bullets taking effect. lie then fatally shot himself. Crowds of people a few yards away, rushing to the scene, found evidences of a violent struggle. Airs Laws was dead and Ford was unconscious. Ford, who died on route to the hospital, was on sick leave. He was suffering from mental depression.
