AMATEUR THEATRICALS.

MASTERTON SOCIETY. ANNUAL MEETING. The annual general meeting of members of the Masterton Amateur Theatrical Society was held last evening, Mr 11. P. Hugo presiding. The annual report stated that the society this year departed from its usual procedure, and instead of hiring wardrobe and scenery, obtained its own properties and produced “'The Sunshine Girl.” In view of the heavy expenses involved, the year was considered quite satisfactory. The actual production showed a loss of £43, but against this the revenue account showed a profit of £ll, and the value of wardrobe, scenery and properties on hand was estimated at £l4O. The society extended its thanks to Messrs G. Gray and Smith Bros, for designing and decorating the scenery, to Mesdanies A. 11. Daniel! and R. Page, the wardrobe mistresses, to Miss I. McKenzie, the pianiste, Mr T. Vaughan (musical director), Mr J. A. Roscwarnc (producer), Mr C. Robertson (property master), and to all helpers for the assistance during the year.

The payment of £65 for labour on the stage was questioned by several members, and it was recommended that in future the Society endeavour to secure voluntary labour under the supervision of a professional stage hand. Officers were elected as follow: —Patron, Mr C. F. Yallance; president, Mr 0 H. Beetham; vice-presidents, Messrs R F. R. Beetham, R. D. Cameron, J. W. Kershaw, F. G. Maunsell, G. Shaw, G. R. Jago; business manager, Mr H. P. Hugo. The appointment of producer, musical director, ballet mistress and pianiste were held over for the incoming committee. “High Jinks” and “The Belle of New York” were mentioned as likely productions for 1925, and the committee was authorised to communicate with societies handling these productions. It was decided to hold a social gathering early next season, so that nev. members might have the opportunity of meeting present members of the society.
