NEW YEAR’S EVE HOLIDAY.

(To the Editor). Sir, —Whilst shopping in town yesterday I heard one or two debates on the question of the shops closing at ‘iChristmas and New Year. I believe a ’Luge majority of shopkeepers favour •opening on both Saturday nights, and -that a few of the larger shops are trying to over-rule them and want to -close for the races. Now, Sir, as a ‘farmer may I have a little say? I '■have always enjoyed a trip to town _j_on Xmas and New Year’s Eve, and especially appreciate the chance of seeing the old year out. Now, how can anyone honestly ask another to hold -the Eve 24 hours before it 'is actually' due? No, Sir, let us enjoy our trip to town on the proper evening—that is, Saturday, December 24 as ■Christinas Eve, and Saturday December :.31, the real New Year’s Eve? I am, etc., "INTERESTED FARMER.” Gladstone, Dec. 20th.
