CRICKET.

QUEENSLAND v. VICTORIA,

MELB OU R NE, Monday

Queensland In the first innings made 139 (Rowe 34, Nothling 66). Bowling: Blackie 6 for 40, Ironmonger 2 for 26. In the second innings Queensland have lost one wicket for 32. The weather was fine and cool and the wicket good, but the outfield was heavy owing to overnight rain, during which the wicket was covered. The batsmen 'were intent-on stonewalling to save an innings defeat. They dug in and scoring was very slow. In the first half-hour only 11 runs were scored. Blackie’s bowling demoralised the Queenslanders, and with Ironmonger bowling at the other end the side was tied up. Queensland followed on, but do not look like doing better than in the first innings. (Victoria in the first innings made 793-) SOUTH AUSTRALIA v. N.S.W. - ADELAIDE, Monday. South Australia made 481 (Schneider 108, Richardson SO, Alexander 42, Hack 45, Grimmett not out 43). New South Wales, who made 519 in the first innings, have lost one wicket for 26 in the second. Richardson, after two chances, gave a sparkling exhibition. Schneider, batting cautiously, took no chances until he reached his century. Hack and Grimmett made a fine fighting stand, taking no chances and bringing the side’s score almost to New South Wales’s total.
