AMATEUR ATHLETICS.
WELLINGTON EVENING MEETING. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) / WELLINGTON, Sunday. The evening athletic sports were held on Saturday in a cold and very strong southerly wind and drizzling rain, the ground being in good order. Several centre champions ran, and also Queensland representatives. The high jump and ladies’ relay race had to be abandoned, owing to the rain. In the 120 yards hurdles, F. S. Ramson easily beat R. W. Lauder, who tipped the last hurdle. In the 100 yards, J. T. Fleming, C. H. Jenkins (Wellington), W. Wall, Parker and W. Or chan (Quensland) were 'the rrliners. In a great race, Jenkins beat Parker in lOsec. The 220yds invitation was won easily l>v .Tonkins in 24 4-Ssec. in the SSOvds, C. B. Allan was first, with If. Newton, of Wanganui, five yards behind. The 440yds was a great race. J. Cunningham beat E. K. Eastwood v- 53 2-5 see. In the one mile, A. D. Priestley beat 11. Gordon by ten yards in 4.54. The 440yds relay race, between Wellington and Queensland, was Won by Wellington. J. Carswell was the. most successful cyclist.
