RANGITUMAU SCHOOL.

ANNUAL CONCERT. Friday evening witnessed the celebration of the annual school concert and Christmas tree for the children of the Rangitumau, which was held in the district hall. A very large gathering of parents was present, and a most enjoyable tune was spent by everyone. The concert programme was particularly good, items being given from the youngest to the older pupils. Little Joan Wilton’s opening recitation was in the nature of an explanation of what was to follow, and the subsequent items were listened to by an appreciative audience. •Great credit is due to the schoolmaster (Mr Caigou) for the wonderful development the children have made in this direction, which made possible the splendid programme rendered. At the close of the concert, certificates of proficiency were presented by Mr F. Wriglcy to the following pupils: —Jean McLachlan, Eileen Duckett and Leslie Smith. The opportunity was taken to farewell Mr and Mrs Caigou, the former having received the appointment of: a master at the Opunake High School. Mr N. McLachlan, on behalf of the school committee and residents of the district, in making flic presentation of a service wagon and cake stand, spoke feelingly of the great loss the district suffered through the departure of this popular teacher, and the good work done during his stay in the district would never be forgotten. Another presentation, in the form of several pieces of crystal, was made by Master Geoffrey Blateliford, on behalf of the children, to their schoolmaster. After Mr Caigou had responded, cheers were called for Mr and Mrs Caigou, and were given lustily. •Santa Claus duly arrived, and every child was presented with a toy from the Christmas tree, along with a dip in the bran tub. The ladies of Rangitumau were again in. evidence with a delightful supper, making a charming climax tv.- one of the most enjoyable functions ever held in the hall.
