(Representatives of the men employed tunnelling operations at Tawa (Flat" and the contractors met in conference to consider the deadlock that ha 3 arisen between the two parties, and after several hours discussion and negotiation an agreement was reached on .all points in dispute. The question of wages was the most fcontentious and the following offer by pic contractor was accepted by the iworkers’ representatives: —Shovellers .to receive 13s per day of eight hours; -machine men, IDs Sd per day; shift bosses, 22s Sd per day; locomotive drivers, 19s jjfrper day and outside workers 4/ 017 s per rRy. The men contended that higher wages should be paid to shovellers, machine men, and .shift bosses, and also took exception to some of the other clauses, chief of which was that relating to the reinstatement of certain dismissed men. Representatives of the workers will .again meet the Contractors this morning, Mr Cook stating last evening that lie hoped to see a settlement arrived at to-day and a start with work at Flat in the morning. The position at present is that the • deadlock still continues.
