The Prime Alinister (Right Hon. J. G. Coates) arrived in Auckland on Saturday by the daylight Limited express. He will remain there until the departure of the Right Hon. L. S. Amery by the Aorangi for Vancouver, and will return to AVellington by the Limited express to-morrow. Air Frank AVali, of Alartinborough, returned to New Zealand by the Tamaroa yesterday. Miss Kathleen Cruickshank has left Masterton en route for Colombo, where she will stay with her sister, Mrs Rose, for several months. The Rev. Father AV. Ryan, of Melbourne, is a visitor to Masterton. Father Ryan is a member of the tralian Jesuit Order and a lecturer dw the Alelbourne University. Mr H, AL AVard, son of Mr IL HAVard, of Hikurangi College, Carterton, was successful in passing in all subjects for which he sat at the recent law professional examinations held in Masterton. Air A. G. Lawson, manager of tho Bank of Australasia, Alastcrton, was admitted to Alastcrton Hospital at an early hour yesterday morning and underwent an operation. He is pro-, gressing as well as can be expected. The funeral of the late Mrs C. G-. McNab, which took place in Masterton on Saturday, was well attended and many wreaths of great beauty were received. The Rev. J. Davie conducted the service at the graveside. Admiral Sir James Fergusson, K.C.8., K.C.AI.G., and Aliss S. Fergusson arrived at Wellington by the Tamaroa. yesterday to join Lady Fergusson, who has been living in the Dominion since Sir James’s last visit a year ago. A London cable states that Mr Andrew She wan, who has died at the ag'ifc of 78, skippered the clipper Lamme™ muir. His death leaves Captain AYoodget, aged 94, skipper of the Cutty Sark, as the last survivor of the famous clipper captains. ' The funeral took place in Masterton yesterday 'afternoon of the late Mrs Ct. C. Summercll. The high respect in which the deceased was held by her many friends was shown in the particularly large number of mourners who attended in spite of the bad weather. The numerous and beautiful floral tributes filled three cars. The ceremony at the graveside was performed by the Rev. AV. Bullock. Six old personal friends of Air Summerell were the pall-bearers. The Right Hon. L. S. Amery, who is at present the guest of Sir Andrew Russell at Tunanui, was accorded an enthusiastic civic reception in Napier on Saturday night, when, despite, wretched weather conditions, there was a large gathering of citizens in Municipal Theatre. Responding to the welcome, Air Amery delivered a message of Christmas cheer and wished the people of the Dominion a prosperous future. He stressed the need for cooperation within the Empire.

At tho Alcthodist Sunday School service yesterday afternoon, Air C-. E. Daniell presented an illuminated address to Mr Alclver (treasurer) and to Air L. Donald (secretary), and in doing so referred to the good, work accomplished by those two workers during their term of office. Mr Daniell’s remarks were supported by Mrs Rutter, on behalf of the teachers, by Dr. N. H. Prior, for the parents, and by tho Rev. J. Cocker. The recipients suitably replied in acknowledgment. Both Mr Mclver and Air Donald resigned on account of ill-health. Air Mclver had been treasurer for 29 years and Mr Donald secretary during the last ten years.

At St. Peter's Anglican Church, Pahiatua, last week, the wedding took place of Miss Thelma Mary Thrunjg, only daughter of Mr and Mrs cJH Thrupp, of Mangaramarama, and Mr*. Roy Charles Bolstad, of Pahiatua. The chief bridesmaid was Miss Eileen Humphrey, of Konini, and the other bridesmaid was Miss Grace Bolstad, youngest sister of the bridegroom. The best man was Mr Gordon Bolstad. Rev. G. W. Fenwick officiated. Close on 80 guests assembled at the residence of the bride’s parents at Mangaramarama, where the wedding breakfast was held, the customary toasts boing honoured. Visitors were present from many parts of the Wairarapa. The honeymoon is being spent in the Main Trunk district. Mr and Mrs R. C. Bolstad will take up their residence in the Pahiatua district.

At the annual meeting of the Methodist Children’s Home the following persons were nominated as members of the Management Committee for the ensuing year:—The superintendent, the minister of the Masterton Circuit, Messrs C. E. Daniell, A. J. Donald, A. II Daniell, 8. J. Smith, J. H. Handyside, E. lE. Wells, W. 11. Prior and the Rev. J. Cocker, MesdTLes J". Cocker, O. Pragnell, J. Elliott, Miss Burton and the minister’s wife. Mr H. Falloon was nominated subject to his approval. Mr S. J. Smith (Public Trustee) was appointed chairman for the coming year and Mr A. J. Donald vice-chairman. The Ladies’ Committee and the Grounds Committee were reappointed. At the close of the meeting a framed photograph of the staff and children was presented by Dr. Prior to the Rev. W. Beckett as a reminder of his chairmanship and ail appreciation of the interest he had taken in the Home.
