“THE BORERS.”

COMMIT ANOTHER CRIME. A SHOP ROBBED. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, Friday. The gang of thieves which has come to be known as “The Borers,” on account of their method of gaining access to the places they rob, added to their long list of burglaries last night, when they stole goods valued at about £SO from the shop of Mr J. H. Reynolds, chemist, Papanui road, Papanui. The back door had three or four panels neatly bored out, and when Mr Reynolds arrived at the shop this morning he found it in the wildest disorder, with articles strewn all over the floor. There were marks to show that a sackful of stuff had been dragged into the right-of-way of the shop aud carted away, thus adding further proof that the thieves operate with the aid of a motor car. Detectives state that the “Borers” are Australian cracksmen. They have been operating in Christchurch for several months. Their total haul during that period is close to the £2OOO mark. There is about their work evidence of careful planning and speedy execution which stamps them as “old timers.” Gloves are worn by the burglars during the course of their work. Efforts by the city’s best detectives to find finger prints have proved unavailing.
