JUMPS OVERBOARD. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) X A PIER, Friday. When about- half a mile from the breakwater this morning, the Wainui was stopped owing to a mentally affected Maori, who was being escorted to Porirua, jumping overboard.His escort, a Gisborne policeman, jumped in after him, and held him up until a boat front the Wainui picked them both up. Both were given a change of clothes, and they were able to join the southbound train.

Mr J. Taggart was admitted to Masterton Hospital last night suffering from injuries received in a motor-cycle accident. Mr Taggart was xidiag bif motor cycle, and when coming off the asphalt road about half a mile this side of the Taratahi Hotel, his -cycle skidded, throwing him heavily to the ground. He sustained injury to his face, knee, and one hand. Mr Tag*, gart was brought, on to MastcTton, and t after being-treated by Dr. Cowie, was ordered t,o the hospital. Enquiries this afternoon showed that Mr Taggart .-is progressing satisfactorily.
