Air. G. Stunnell was elected a memberThe Ground Committee submitted a lengthy report reviewing the new permanent work done during the year, which included extension of the drainage system, new tecs and paths, toodressing of greens, extensions and alterations to' the club house and additions to the plant. It was pointed out that the money available for course improvement was not large and set a very definite limit on the amount of work which could be accomplished in one year. The principal item in a big pr> gramme of suggested new works was the installation of a water supply scheme, raised by windmill into a storage tank, to be available for the groundsman so that he could deal economically with the eradication of worm easts on the greens. Though bunkering was desirable it was not so urgent as other works enumerated and was therefore) not recommended. A vote of thanks was accorded tho Ground Committee, on the motion -of Air. C. WY Perry, who stated that though the committee had been criticised, they had stuck to a definite policy and the results spoke for themselves. A discussion took place regarding the system of handicapping. Air. T. 11. Horton stated that the Alastcrton players found their handicaps most misleading when playing on other courses because the Mastcrton course was a harder 78 than most courses- in New Zealand. He suggested that the committee should treat “bogey” as being greater than 7S for local purposes and that players should be requested to return at least three cards for medal play each month to act as a guide for the hand:cappers. The matter was referred to the committee.
