FATAL CAR ACCIDENT.
DRIVER IN COURT. ALLEGED TO HAVE HAD DRINK. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH,'November 30. The hearing of the charges against Henry Denham of killing David Forsyth and Evelyn Blanch Hildebrand by on unlawful act, on November 6, 1920 were continued this morning at the Alagistrate’s Court. Air. 11. P. Lawry, S.AI.. was on the bench. The tragedy which resulted in Denham’s indictment took place on YYildliurst Road on the evening of November G. He was driving back to the city after the races when the car crashed into, a tramway pole at the side of the road and two passengers in the car were killed. A witness, who had occupied a front seat of the ear beside the driver, said that Denham was plying the car for hire. It was noticeable after he started that lie had had some liquor. The police evidence stated that Denham smelled strongly of liquor when seen immediately after the accident. Accused said to a constable “I suppose I’ll get ten years for this.” Accused, who reserved his defence was committed to the Supreme Court for trial. Bail was allowed.
