AMATEUR ATHLETICS.
A NEW RECORD. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Monday. At the postponed Wellington athletic meeting this evening, the outstanding performance was that of Miss Nancy Eastwood (Gisborne), who lowered Miss Maxwell’s New Zealand record time of 11 4-ssee. for 100 yards by one-fiftli of a second. Mis’s E. Porter, the present New Zealand champion, was unplaced. Miss R. Manton (Wellington) and N. Wilson (Gisborne), dead-heated for second place. In the 100 yards club race, €. 11. Jenkins (Wellington) was. credited with doing even time, although the track was inclined to be heavy as the result of rain during the day. The Wellington ladies’ relay team (Misses Porter, F. Stevenson. R. Manton and S. Swinburne), who have equalled the world’s record of 49soc. for the 440 yards, defeated the Gisborne team (Misses M. McDonald, N. Wilson. 11. Hansen and N. Eastwood) by two yards in uSsecs. They withstood a challenge for the Etevencaux Cup. The 73 yards ladies’ handicap was won by Miss King (Wellington), with MiSses Hansen and Eastwood tilling second and third rcspcctir cL.
