FIRE AT SEA.
i LINER DESTROYED. CREW RESCUED. LONDON, Monday. The Ayrshire was completely destroyed by;fire off Colombo, The crew of a r hundred were rescued bp the City of Nagpur and the Aeneas. The warship Lupin was left in attendance on the. derelict. The-fire originated in the bunkers, which were quickly red hot. The. flames spread amidships, blazing fiercely upwards 150 feet. (The Ayrshire was built in the latter half of 1903 by Hawthorn, Leslie and Company, Newcastle, for the Scottish Shire Line. She has a grpsis tonnage of 9137, and her principal dimensions arc: Length- 160 ft, breadth sSft, depth 31ft. The Ayrshire left Sydney at the beginning of November, laden with wool and refrigerated cargo for Great Britain.)
