EX-FARMER LOSES £73. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) PALMERSTON N., Friday. Allegations that he hail been asked to go to the Esplanade to assist at a horse sale ,tliat lie had. there been invited to participate; in a game of cards, and that he finely had been robbed, were made bv Stanley Gibson, one-time farmer at « Taumarumii, and now of Christchurch, at the S.M. Court, this morning, when Denholm Gillespie, alias John Harris, a well-dresseil young mafi, was charged with the theft of £73. Accused, it is alleged, is one of party of three who worked together. Following the oecurrcnc:, smart work by Sergeant Power, saw the arrest of Robert Howden, who, it is alleged, was the man who took Gibson to the Esplanade, but the other two men stated to be implicated, left town. However, in Sydney recently Gillespie was arrested for drunkenness, and it was then found he was wanted by the New Zealand police in connection with the charge laid by Gibson. Accused was deported from Australia, and was arrested iu Wellington oil Tuesday. Howden was charged at the Magistrate's Court on March 12th, pleading not guilty, and was committed for trial. At the conclusion of the evidence this morning Gillespie pleaded not guilty, and was committed for trial at the Supreme Court.
