SERIOUS SYMPTOMS.
OPERATION PERFORMED,

The following official bulletin was issued this morning: Tin* Prime Minister’s illness has lately developed more serious symptoms. After consultation between his medical advisers and Dr. Garrick Robertson, of Auckland, it was decided that an investigation by operation was essential. The patient bore the operation well. Further bulletins will be issued from time to time.

There is little more to publish re the Premier than is stated in the bulletin. In answer to enquiries it was ascertained that the symptoms which necessitated the operation only * developed very recently. There is, however, an official disinclination to say anything more, and it was stated that no further bulletin would probably be issued today.
Mr 0. Pragncll, Mayor of Mastcrton, received notification this morning of Mr Massey’s illness, and telegraphed his sympathy, and the hope that the Prime Minister would soon be restored to good health.
