NOVELIST MURDERED
RADICAL VIEWS DETESTED.
VIENNA, Friday.
Hugo Bettauer, editor of Der Xieue Tag, and one of the most brilliant Austrian novelists, died of the wounds inflicted by the Austrian Fascist Roth well, who tired six shots at Bettauer a fortnight ago.
Bettauer was detested by the Conservative elements owing to his radicalism and the unconventionality of his writing, and owing to the. fact that he was a Jew, he was bitterly denounced by Fascists. Aus. and N.Z. Cable Assn.
