This was duly despatched, and the following reply lias 'been received through His Excellency the Governor-General: . < < Sir,—His Excellency has received from the Secretary of State for the Colonies a copy of the petition, addressed to His Majesty the King by the New Zealand Post and Telegraph Officers’ Association, relating to the recent refusal of the Government of this Dominion to permit the association to complete an affiliation with the New Zealand Alliance of Labour. “His Excellency is requested by the Secretary of State to cause you to be informed, in reply, that the petition was duly received by the King, but that His Majesty was not pleased to give any directions with regard, to the subject matter, which lies within the exclusive competence of the Government of New Zealand. “ (Signed) A.
