The' retirement, on superannuation, of Captain C. F. Post, of the _ Government steamer Tutanekai, Wellington, i# gazetted. ' Mr A. A. Ross has been appointed lea- _ der of the Country Political Party, pro- * moted by the Farmers’ Union in theAuckland Province. ■ Mr. E. D. Hammond, a well-known resident of Taranaki, and part owner of the racehorse Marton, has parsed away at New' Plymouth. Mr. John Baird Thompson has been, appointed Under-Secretary of Lands in succession to Mr. Brodriek, who- is retiring on superannuation. The Prime Minister, Mr. Massey, has accepted flic invitation of the bury Progress League to visit church and North Canterbury in about six weeks’ time. Mr Mclntyre, teller at the Featherston branch of the Bank of New Zealand, will be leaving Featherston shortly, but the destination of his transfer has not yet been made known. Messrs M. Forde and F. Hunt hava been elected delegates from the Wellington branch of the New Zealand Railway Officers’’ Institute to the Dominion conference in May. Representations' have been made to Mr. J. P. Brandon, Mayor of Ot iki, and formerly of Mastcrton, to allow himself to be nominated as a candidate for the Otaki seat at the forthcoming election. Mr. Brandon is considering the matter. The death occurred at the Master-tan. Hospital yesterday of Mr Henry Fuller, at the age of 85 years. Deceased had been ailing for some time, and entered the hospital about three week* ago. Mrs R. J. Ewington, of Lansdowne, is a daughter, and Mr Georg* Coleman a nephew of deceased. At the Cabinet meeting yesterday thaopportunity was taken .to preset® Sir Francis Bell with a travelling ri^^conveying. therewith the- best wishes of the Prime Minister and his colleagues of a pleasant journey for Sir Francisin the trip that he is about to make (to England and Europe. Information has been received in. that His Majesty King George has been graciously pleased to * appoint Miss Helen Gillespie, formerly of Mastcrton, to the Wellington Nursing division as an iion. serving sister of the Order of St. John of Jerusalem in England. Miss Gillespie was formerly lady superintendent of the Mastcrton Nursing Division, and is at present star tinned at King George Hospital, Rotarua.
