A BLAZING INFERNO
TERRIBLE EXPLOSION.
TEN GIRLS KILLED.

An explosion, occurred at Port Tipton, Staffordshire, killing ten and injuring 30 girls who were removing the contents of 160 tons of cartridges.
The explosion occurred Avhile the contents were being put into a separate receptacle, and blew off the roof. The whole of the 50 girls in the room were blackened beyond recognition. All the clothing of many of them was torn off the bodies and the hair burned off the others.
While cartridges were being taken to pieces the factory floor was strewn with gunpowder. When the explosion occurred the girls were trapped iu a blazing inferno. Some of the injured rushed inlo the streets naked and shrieking in agony. Passers-by covered them with sacks.
The injured afterwards were taken in lorries to the hospital, where it was necessary to discharge convalescent patients to make room for them.—Aus. and N.Z. Cable Assn.
