THE PREMIER OPTIMISTIC. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) GISBORNE, This Day. Mr. Massey visited the Waiapu district yesterday and was received at a large native gathering at which reference was made to the loyal part played by the Ngatiporo’s in the early days, and the great sacrifice of the native race in the late war. Representations were made in regard to the urgency of the harbour works in Hicks Bay, in view of the establishment of freezing works recently opened there. Mr. Massey promised to give all possible. assistance, and spoke optimistically regarding the country’s future. The Premier will return to Gisborne this afternoon. He was accorded a public reception, the business premises closing for the occasion.
