WATERSIDERS' DISPUTE.

BEFORE CONCILIATION COUNCIL. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, Monday. The Conciliation Council met to-day to consider the watersiders’ 1 dispute. The matter was taken in committee. The employers ask for wages at the rate of Is 7d per hour, with 2s 4-Id for overtime, a bonus of 3jd, extra rates up to od per hour for handling special cargoes. The union makes counter-proposals for 2s od per hour for ordinary work, and up to 3s 2d for special work, overtime at the rate of time and a-half for the first two hours, and double time thereafter. The rate under the old award is 2s 3d, with a penny bonus. The employers ask that “go-slow,” or any attempt to restrict output or overtime in any port, ship, or wharf, or the holding of stop-work meetings, be a breach of the award.

The union asks for the right to hold a stop-work meeting once a month. After discussion of the proposals submitted by the union, an adjournment was made until to-morrow to enable the employers’ assessors to consult the shipowners.
