RIMUTAKA DEVIATION.
THE VARIOUS SCHEMES. A WELLINGTON DISCUSSION. A brief report on the visit of inspection made to the Wairarapa last week in connection with the proposed railway deviation via Lowry Bay, the Orongorongo, and Lake Wairarapa was made to the council of the Wellington Chamber of Commerce yesterday by its representative on the tour, Mr. Andrew Mackenzie.
Mr. Mackenzie said he had been much impressed with the information supplied, and with the excellent farming country the suggested deviation would open up. The line would rcsul in greatly-reduced working expenses. Mr. 11. D. Bennett thought the chamber should put itself on side in regard to the. Wairarapa. deviation by making a thorough investigation of the merits of the various schemes proposed. The engineer to the Harbour Board was well equipped with information on the subject, and he moved that Mr. Marchbanks should be invited to address the council. The motion was carried.
