MAURICEVILLE COUNCIL.

MONTHLY MEETING. The Council met on Saturday, when there were present: —Crs. A. i orsboig, (chairman), 11. Judd, W. A. Miller C. B. Seymour and A. M. Colqulioun. Cr. R. Dagg'was prevented by sickness from attending. The Eketahuna County Clerk wrote, suggesting a conference of representatives of local bodies to deal with the proposed formation of an Electiic lower Board. —It was decided that a reply be sent intimating that the Council is willing to join the conference. Mrs°l. E. Cameron and the Commissioner of Crown Lands wrote objecting to 'Travel being taken from a pit on Mrs Cameron’s land unless much fencing is first done. —It was stated that _ this would necessarily delay the metalling of Iliuraua Yalley road for the present seaThe Eugincer-in-Chief, Public Works Department, wrote consenting to the Council’s suggestion that the bridge to be erected at Kaiparo bo built of concrete, and proposing that it be a reinforced concrete bridge of three plain beam spans. This, he stated, could be erected with greater case and at less expense than Mr A. Falkncr’s areli desj„n.—pt was resolved that the Department be asked to furnish the Council with a plan of their plain beam bridge and estimate of the cost. A tender was received for the metalline of Mangaoronga road, provided the contractor was allowed to use. stones not larger than five inches in diameter in the nine-inch layer of mtftal. —This the District Engineer refused to permit, and as the tenderer could wait no longer, his tender had to be declined. The action of the Department, it was said, will not be appreciated by the settlers using this road, nor the Eketahuna storekeepers, who have for many yeais wished the metalling to be done, and now, when they seemed on the eve of being gratified, their hopes are dashed to the ground. Tenders will be invited for re-metall-ing part of Dreyer’s Rock road. The resolution imposing 10 per cent penalty on defaulting ratepayers was confirmed. Mr William Jcssen was appointed County Clerk, collector, treasurer, returning officer, etc., at a salary of £125 per annum. Accounts amounting to £645 6s lid were passed for payment.
