THE NEW DEFENCE SCHEME. Complaint has been made that the new defence scheme for New' Zealand which was recently brought before Parliament, conveys little or no meaning to the majority of citizens, and a pronouncement by the Minister is being awaited before the passing of opinions. Inquiries were made in Wellington yesterday with the object of throwing some light on the proposals, and those who w r erc approached and who were conversant with the new scheme were 1 of the opinion that it was totally ina.de quate for the defence of the Dominion. One official went so far as to say that he did not think it- would be accepted by the public as it w-as not nearly comprehensive enough. Other officials who were interviewed declined to comment on the scheme.
