METHODIST GUILD.
MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly “At Home” meeting of the Methodist Ladies’ Guild was held at. the residence of Mrs Cocker, “The Parsonage,” Worksop road, yesterday afternoon. Tho.ro was an excellent attendance, presided over by the Rev. Cocker. Routine business was transacted. ■ Arrangements were made for the “Old Folks At Home” to be held in the Methodist Church, on Friday afternoon, when all grandparents, or anyouo over (50 years of age a.re invited to be present, when they will be entertained by the young people of the church. Any friends (of any denomination) who have been overlooked, will receive ail invitation by letting the Guild members, or Mrs Cocker, know they would like. to be present. The meeting is arranged in connection with the Mission services now being held by the Rev. Val Trigge. Each guest will he presented with a buttonhole p,r spray, and there will be six special bouquets, one each for the oldest person present, those having the. most grandchildren, the oldest. New Zealand-born, the person who has been resident , the longest in the Wairarapa, aiui the person or persons who have been married the .longest. The church people hope to see a large attendance present. •During the afternoon Miss, Jones sang, Miss Bessen gave a recital, and a short speech was made by the Rev. Trigge. ' ‘ ■ Rev. Corker moved a resolution congratulating Mrs Nellie Miller on the honour that had , been bestowed upon her son, Mr Harold Miller, in being selected as the Rhodes' Scholar. Mr Coeke.r referred to Mr Miller’s work in connection with the Church, going from the. infant sehiffil to the Bible class, and. then to the position of local preacher. The resolution was carried with acclamation.Mrs Miller thanked Mr Cocker and those present for their kind words, which she appreciated very much. Aftornooii-tea was provided by the hostess.
The next meeting will be held at Mrs Elliott’s home, Colombo Road.
