MASTERTON CLUB. There was something near a record attendance (fojr :;a ordinary club night) at the weekly meeting of the above club last evening, ten boards being in active play during the whole ol" the evening, twenty-four players be--ing presenv (several new faces were seen in the room for the first time, and it would seem its though the recent special effort of the club to arouse enthusiasm is about to bear fruit. A suggestion was put forward that the first Monday, in each month be set aside as a social evening, each member to do his best to bring along a friend. A letter was received from the lion, secretary of the Y.M.C.A., assuring the club of the Y.M. ’s desire to fostei 1 , cordial relationship to mutual advantage.
