UNIFORM SCHOOL BOOKS.
The Masterton A. and P. Association has decided to forward a remit to the Agricultural Conference at Wellington, recommending the Government to standardise the school books throughout New Zealand. \\e think the proposal is one which will have the hearty support of the whole of the parents of this Dominion. It is a bad educational policy which requires a parent residing at, say, Eketahuna, on removing to Masterton, to purchase a fresh set of books for his child or children. We cannot understand why such a ridiculous system exists. It shows that the authorities responsible arc not taking very much interest in our educational system, when they allow parents to be put to unnecessary expense in the matter of school books. Our Education Department needs cleaning up. During the past few years a state bordering <>n chaos has existed in the Educational. Department, because the Minister in charge has not been a ‘‘live wire, conversant with the educational needs of the country. Now that- Mr Parr has been placed in charge of this most important department we hope to see our educational system put on a better footing, and we trust, that, the standardisation of books will lie one of the innovations that will be introduced.
