INFLUENZA.
. CANTERBURY OUTBREAK. (By Telegraph—Prpps Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, Tuesday. During (he twenty-four hours euded noon to-day, 114 fresh notifications of inuuenza cases were received by the Public Health Department at Christchurch. These notifications cover the whole of the Canterbury- and Westland districts, and include sixty-one cases in North Canterbury-, fhrty-eight in .Canterbury, and five in Ashburton, fill mild. The total number reported over the whole district for the preceding 24 hours was 157, so th.iL if these figures can be accepted as setting out the correct position, the epidemic is not spreading at an alarming rate. At the same time, two more schools in the city- were closed to-day. A giqiat many- cases of an exceedingly- mild, though infectious ty-pe, are never reported to the authorities. SLIGHT INCREASE IN OTAGO. -DUNEDIN, Tuesday. Influenza slightly- on the increase, but is not malignant. There were 15S notifications in the district -of Otago and Southland for the week ended yesterday-, and 12 cases are intlip Diyiedin Hospital.
