DOMESTIC INFELICITY.
YOUNG COUPLE SEPARATE. ‘ IMPOSSIBLE TO LIVE TOGETHER' At the Magistrate’s Court in Mastertoii this imbruing, Cecilia O’Neil, a youngl woman, applied foy a separation order from her husband, Thomas P. O’Neil, stock dealer, of Clareville, also for maintenance and guardianship of child, on the ground of persistentcruelty. ; Mr Burridge appeared for complainant. . Defendant, in his evidence, said he would consent to the separation order, lie was prepared to; pay 35s per week for. the support of liis wife and child. He derived his income through dealing with stock. He had a farm of 100 acres at Clareville, upon which he had raised a Government mortgage of £2500. In addition to the interest upon this mortgage, he had a payment to make upon a second mortgage. His income from the farm had not been more than 30s a week, after paying his way. Witness produced a bill for his .wife V clothing for £ls 16s 6d, which he!would have to pay. He had ■also given her. £32 odd in connection with her .expenses at the birth of her child. He could not pay more than 35s a wefek, but this he was willing to pay. . It was impossible for he and liis wife to live together. His Worship said it appeared that the parties had beeu separated since January Ist. Mrs O’Neil had received during that time from her husband, as much as she would have done if, the order for 35s per week had been made at the date of their separation. He could not- see, therefore, that she could expect anything for past support. It had not been shown that defendant’s income was more than £3 10s a week, of which the defendant offered half. An order would be made for defendant, .to pay 35s a week. Defendant agreed to pay costs.
