FARMERS’ UNION.
Speaking at the meeting of the Martiuborough branch of the Farmers’ Union yesterday, Mr D. Hebenton touched upon a very important matter, and one which should have been in operation years ago. Mr Hebenton urged tho Wairarapa being raised in status, as far as the Fanners,’ Union was concerned, to that of a provincial district. At present it is only a sub-centre, ” having its headquarters at Palmerston North. The Wairarapa is now, thanks mainly to Mr Hebei\ton, one of tho chief Farmers’ Union centres in New Zealand, and why it should be attached to tlie coat-tails of Palmerston North passes comprehension. We trust that the branches of the Union in the Wairarapa will follow up the matter referred to by Mr Hebenton, and see that the status of the Wairarapa is raised to that of a province.
